The power of Facebook can be harnessed for the classroom. There are many sites that allow you to create closed online communities for your classes. You can have students communicate and interact as themselves, or they can create profiles for characters, famous people, or elements. The possibilities are limitless.
Use the following sites to create your own social networks in the classroom:
Grou.ps - Free sites up to 500MB of data storage. Includes blog page, wikis, forum, member pages, events, and more! Easy to use and set up, you can control who joins, who sees, and what they can post! Sample test Grou.ps site - Please join the group and play around with the features.
Ning - Currently $2.95 a month, but promise free Educator accounts by end of summer. This was used quite successfully by teachers at Saucon in the past.
