What is Web 2.0? Web 2.0 is a generic term that describes websites that allow for user generated content, meaning you don't just read a webpage, you use it to create something new.
Web 2.0 tools are all over the web, with new ones popping up everyday. Some stick around for years, some die after only a short lifespan, and some start charging for things that once were free. Follow the following rules for success with any Web 2.0 endeavor:
(1) Always check out your tools just before the start of the project to make sure they still do what you want them to do.
(2) Make sure students can access the tool and verify the requirements to create an account. Have students use their gaggle e-mail when e-mail is required for sign up.
(2) Be flexible, it often helps to give students a selection of tools to use.
(3) Don't panic if a tool disappears, a new one will come to fill the void.
(4) You don't have to be an expert to use a Web 2.0 tool, they are easy to figure out, particularly for your students. Patience and problem solving are two skills that we should always be teaching alongside our content.
